A 66-year-old Tasmanian man has died in a boating accident in the state's north.
Tasmania Police said the man was trying to secure another vessel whose moorings had come loose on Wednesday afternoon when the small boat he was in capsized.
Police found the man in the river after a witness alerted authorities, but he was unable to be resuscitated.
The man, from Deviot, was wearing a personal flotation device.
A report into the drowning will be conducted for both the coroner and Marine and Safety Tasmania.
A police spokesperson cautioned all boat users to be aware of weather conditions and boat safety when out on the water.
The Bureau of Meteorology had issued a severe weather warning for north-eastern Tasmania due to damaging winds for all of Wednesday and Thursday.
Winds of up to 90 kilometres per hour toppled a large tree at nearby Winkleigh on Thursday morning, closing a portion of Winkleigh Road.
The wild weather is expected to continue on Thursday.
