Man driven off road by angry ex

A woman who drove her ex-partner off the road was lucky to escape jail time.

Yvonne Macpherson, 38, tailed Mark Schaffield’s car on the A76 near Lochside House Hotel, New Cumnock, in November 2017.

She collided with the offside rear of his vehicle, forcing it into the path of oncoming traffic.

Mr Schaffield’s car then struck a kerb, left the carriageway and rolled down a grass embankment, where he was left injured.

Macpherson was granted bail with a condition she did not approach or contact her ex.

But on May 1 she made contact with him at Wellington Square, Ayr, where she behaved in a threatening manner by shouting and swearing.

Solicitor Glenn Davis said: “She’s no longer living in this area. She’s already subject to a five-year non-harassment order which protects the complainers.

“She did spend some time in custody and she describes that experience as being horrific.”

Sheriff Desmond Leslie said Macpherson was “extremely fortunate” the driving offence did not result in injury or death.

He continued: “If that had been the case you would not be in front of me. You’d be in the High Court.

“The one thing that keeps you out of jail is that your children are now with you. If I send you to jail that would have clear repercussions for them.

“I’m satisfied these events are probably now historic and you’re subject to a non-harassment order which will keep you away from your former partner.”

Macpherson, of Doon Place, Bellfield Kilmarnock, was convicted of dangerous driving.

She was banned from driving for three years and ordered to resit her test.

She also tagged for six months, ordered to to 200 hours of unpaid work and put under supervision for two years.
