Man dragged off his bike by thugs who held onlooker at knifepoint

A man was dragged off his electric bike and assaulted in a horrifying street attack.

The victim was approached by three unknown men when he was cycling down Ullet Road, close to the junction of Cheltenham Avenue, at 3pm on Wednesday, June 30.

The attackers dragged the victim off his bike before assaulting him and leaving him with an eye injury,

Police believe one of the suspects cycled off along Ullet Road on the stolen bike.

A second man ran off in the same direction as the bike and the third man was reported to have run off towards Croxteth Road.

The bike is a black Cube bike with green lettering.

A member of the public in a car who witnessed the incident confronted two of the suspects on York Avenue nearby and was reported to have been threatened with a knife.

Officers are now appealing for anyone with any information to come forward and released a CCTV still of a man they believe could help with their enquiries.

Detective Constable Sam Jennings said: "We’re keen to speak to anyone who recognises this man, as he may hold vital information to assist our enquiries.

"This was an appalling incident, leaving a person injured and our investigation is ongoing to find the persons responsible and remove them from our streets.

"While some time has passed since the incident we are issuing these images in the hope that they lead to someone coming forward to help bring the people responsible to justice.

"We know the area would have been busy with people driving along Ullet Road or going towards Sefton Park to enjoy the sunshine.

"If you were in the Ullet Road area at the time of the incident and saw anything or anyone suspicious, or captured mobile phone or dashcam footage, then please get in touch as information you hold could be vital to our investigation."
