Man 'disperses pepper spray in Pizza Hut' with 20 customers assessed by paramedics

Diners and staff had to be checked over by paramedics when a man “dispersed pepper spray” in a city centre restaurant chain on Friday night.

Emergency crews were called to Fountain Street, in Manchester city centre, at around 7.55pm.

Police say initial enquiries suggest a man dispersed pepper spray in the Pizza Hut restaurant.

No arrests have been made and an investigation is ongoing (Millicent Cooke)

A total of 20 people - both customers and staff - were assessed by paramedics at the scene.

Nobody required hospital treatment, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said.

A GMP spokesperson said police were called to an incident at a restaurant on Fountain Street, in Manchester city centre, at around 7.55pm on Friday (February 7).

“Emergency services attended and initial enquiries suggest a man dispersed pepper spray in Pizza Hut.

“20 customers and staff were assessed by paramedics at the scene. None required hospital treatment.

“No arrests have been made.

“An investigation is underway.”
