Man discovered in Newtownards flat with serious head and hand injuries

A man is being treated in hospital for serious injuries to his head and hands after being discovered at a Newtownards flat.

Detectives in Bangor CID are appealing for information following his suspected assault.

Police said they received a report “shortly after 7.30am on Tuesday (March 2) that a man had been discovered at a flat in the Valetta Park area with serious injuries to his head and hands."

“The man was taken to hospital where he remains in a stable condition and his injuries are not thought to be life threatening,” they added.

Alliance councillor for the area and chair of the local PCSP, Nick Mathison, said: "I appeal to anyone with information to contact PSNI or Crimestoppers in relation to this incident.

"There is no place for acts of violence such as this in our society and I hope that the PSNI is able to bring the offenders to justice in this case."

Anyone who may have witnessed the assault or noticed anything suspicious in the area are urged to contact detectives on 101 quoting reference number 271 02/02/21.

A spokesperson for Northern Ireland Ambulance Service said: "The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service received a 999 call at 07.34 on Tuesday, 02 March 2021 following reports of an incident in the Valetta Park area of Newtownards.

"NIAS dispatched one Emergency crew to the scene.

"Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene, one patient was taken to the Ulster Hospital by ambulance."
