A 42-year-old man died Thursday weeks after being shot in Grand Crossing on the South Side.

About 11:10 p.m. July 1, the man was with a 27-year-old man on the front porch of a residence in the 7200 block of South Woodlawn Avenue when someone fired shots at them from the gangway, Chicago police said.

The 27-year-old was struck in the chest and the older man was struck in the abdomen, police said. They were both taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition.

The 42-year-old, Walter Brown, died Thursday evening from complications of his injuries, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. An autopsy ruled his death a homicide.

Brown lived in Calumet City, the medical examiner’s office said.
