Man dies three weeks after being hit by car involved in police chase in Aberdeen

A man who was seriously injured after being hit by a car in a police chase in Aberdeen has sadly died in hospital.

The 48-year-old was knocked down on Great Northern Road in the Granite City on Monday, August 16, before being rushed to the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

The driver of a black Seat Leon, which was being pursued by officers after allegedly failing to stop, was arrested in connection with the serious crash.

Police have confirmed the incident took place during a pursuit.

It has now been revealed that the pedestrian tragically lost his fight for life on Saturday, September 11.

The 28-year-old driver is due to appear at Aberdeen Sheriff Court today (Tuesday, September 21).

A report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal while Police Scotland has referred itself to the Police Investigations & Review Commissioner.

A force spokesperson said: “The 48-year-old man who was injured following the crash died within Aberdeen Royal Infirmary on Saturday, 11 September, 2021.

“A 28-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and is due to appear at Aberdeen Sheriff Court on Tuesday, 21 September, 2021.

"A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

“As is standard procedure, the matter has been referred to the Police Investigations & Review Commissioner (PIRC) with respect to any prior police involvement.”
