A man has died on the tracks at a railway station near Bolton.
Police were called to Lostock railway station shortly before 4.40pm on Tuesday following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
Paramedics attended, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
His death is not being treated as suspicious, officers say.
A file is being prepared for the coroner.
Train services between Bolton, Wigan and Preston were disrupted for several hours while emergency services dealt with the incident.
In a statement, a British Transport Police spokesperson said: "Officers were called to Lostock railway station, Bolton, at 4.38pm yesterday (20 April) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
"Paramedics also attended, however sadly a man was pronounced dead at the scene.
"This incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
