A man has tragically died after being hit by a van on the busy M8 near Bathgate.
Emergency services raced to the scene on the eastbound carriageway at around 6.20pm on Tuesday.
A 33-year-old man, who has been described as a pedestrian by cops, was struck by a white Peugeot Boxer van near the Pyramids Business Park.
Paramedics battled to save him but he was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
The road was closed for around 7 hours while officers carried out accident investigation works to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision.
Investigators are now appealing for anyone who may have dashcam footage from the area around the time of the crash to get in touch.
Sergeant Andrew Trotter, of Road Policing East, said: “Our thoughts go out to the family and friends of those involved in this incident.
“We are currently conducting enquiries to establish the full circumstances surrounding the crash and are appealing to members of the public who may have any information that could help with our investigation.
“The road would have been busy with other motorists at the time and I would ask if you witnessed the collision or have any information that you contact officers.
“I would also ask if you have any dashcam footage of the area that you come forward and speak to police.
