Man dies on M8 after being hit by 'number of vehicles' on New Year morning

A man has died after being hit by a "number of vehicles" on the M8 motorway in West Lothian.

Officers from Police Scotland were called to the busy road between Edinburgh and Glasgow at around 2.45am today, January 1, after reports a man was struck by vehicles.

The road was shut in both directions between Junction 3A and Junction 4 at East Whitburn for several hours following the horror incident.

An investigation has been launched with cops urging people to contact them with any information.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 2.45am on Friday, 1 January, 2021, a male pedestrian died after being struck by a number of vehicles on the eastbound carriageway of the M8 near to junction 4 at East Whitburn.

“The road is closed westbound between junction 3a and junction 4.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the incident.”

Traffic Scotland announced the road reopened in both directions at around 11.15am.
