A man has been killed while working with heavy machinery at a South Australian landscaping business.

The 30-year-old from Callington was critically injured at Mulch N More's Brinkley depot, about 15km from Murray Bridge, early on Friday.

He was rushed to hospital with critical injuries but died a short time later.

Landscaping supplier Mulch N More released a statement on Friday evening, saying they were deeply shocked and saddened.

"This is a very distressing time for everyone involved and, as a small family-run business, we are grieving along with his loved ones," the company statement read.

"Out of respect for our valued colleague and friend, we have suspended operations until further notice and ask that his family be given privacy."

Counselling will be provided to staff and the company has offered support to the man's family.

It is also assisting Safe Work SA and police in their investigations.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
