Man dies in Warrington after testing positive for coronavirus

A man who tested positive for the coronavirus has died at the age of 59.

He is the first confirmed coronavirus-related death in Warrington.

The man, who had an underlying health condition, was sadly pronounced dead at Warrington Hospital on Thursday, March 19.

In a statement, Chief Executive, Simon Constable, of Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said:  "We can confirm that, sadly, a 59-year old male patient has passed away at Warrington Hospital on Thursday, March 19.

"The patient had tested positive for covid-19."

Public Health England confirmed this evening, March 21, that the number of people who have died in the UK after contracting coronavirus has now reached 233.

The death toll in England jumped by 53 in 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths in the country to 220.

In a statement NHS England said: “A further 53 people, who tested positive for the Coronavirus (Covid-19), have died - bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in England to 220.

“Patients were aged between 41 and 94 years old and all had underlying health conditions.”
