Man dies in Sydney scuba diving incident

Paramedics were unable to revive the diver after he was pulled from the water in Sydney's south. (AAP)

A scuba diver has died in Sydney after being pulled from the water unconscious.

The man was diving off the coast of Inscription Point at Kurnell in Sydney's south on Saturday when he ran into trouble.

He was unresponsive when pulled from the water just after midday, with fellow divers attempting resuscitation before paramedics took over.

Despite their efforts, the man could not be revived.

NSW Ambulance inspector David Matthews said bystanders did an incredible job to get the man to shore and immediately begin CPR.

"They were remarkable in devastating circumstances," he said in a statement.

"As we head into the summer months, it's important to understand the dangers of the ocean and waterways. It's imperative to have a safety plan in case something goes wrong."

The man is yet to be formally identified, with police establishing a crime scene as they prepare a report to the coroner.
