A man has died after a single-car crash in the far north of South Australia on Monday morning.

SA Police said emergency services were called around 9:15am to the Stuart Highway at Wintinna, about 217 kilometres south of the SA-NT border.

Emergency crews had received reports that a Holden sedan had rolled over.

In a statement, police said the car's driver, a 51-year-old man from the far north, died at the scene.

The Stuart Highway was closed in both directions while Major Crash investigators examined the scene, but has since been reopened.

The man's death takes South Australia's road toll to 42 in 2021, compared to 37 at the same time last year.
