Man dies in police custody in Kirkcaldy as probe launched

A man has died while in police custody in Kirkcaldy after being arrested yesterday.

Officers from Police Scotland have launched an investigation after a 36-year-old male passes away earlier today.

It comes after reports that three ambulances were spotted outside Kirkcaldy police station this morning.

C ops say they will fully co-operate with a Police Investigations and Review Commissioner probe into the death.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "The Police Investigations and Review Commissioner is carrying out a Crown directed investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a 36-year-old man who was taken into custody at Kirkcaldy Police Station on Thursday, 17 September, 2020.

"Police Scotland will co-operate fully with the PIRC's enquiries.”
