Man dies in microlight crash in Northern Ireland

A man has died after his microlight aircraft crashed off the runway at a private airfield in Northern Ireland.

The accident occurred at Newtownards airfield at about 11.20am on Tuesday.

Insp Glenn Campbell, of the Police Service of Northern Ireland, said: “Police can confirm that a man has died following an incident involving a light aircraft at Newtownards airfield shortly before 11.30am this morning, Tuesday 7 April.

“Air Accident Investigation Branch have been informed and will be the lead agency in this investigation.”

The Ulster Flying Club, which runs the airfield, declined to comment on the incident.
