A 29-year-old man was killed in a single-vehicle crash Sunday in northwest suburban unincorporated Harvard.

He was a passenger of a Mercedes-Benz SUV that crashed into two trees about 7:24 p.m. in the 21000 block of Oak Grove Road, the McHenry County sheriff’s office said in a statement.

Investigators learned the SUV was traveling eastbound on Oak Grove when it crossed over the westbound lane and left the roadway west of Route 14, the sheriff’s office said. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the SUV, a 32-year-old man from Niles, was flown to a hospital in Rockford with serious injuries, the sheriff’s office said. Airbags had deployed, and alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash.

The McHenry County coroner’s office has not released the passenger’s identity.
