Man dies in hospital after being hit by car in Scottish town

A MAN has died in hospital after being hit by a car in South Lanarkshire

Police were called to Meikle Earnock Road in Hamilton at around 12.35am on Sunday following the reports of a silver Skoda Octavia hitting a pedestrian.

A 43-year-old man was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital by the emergency services, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

The driver of the car was uninjured, and the road was closed to allow police to investigate the scene before it was reopened at around 8am.

Officers are appealing for information as they look to establish the full circumstances.

Sergeant John Houston said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died at this very difficult time.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances, and we are appealing to anyone who witnessed the crash to contact us.

“We also ask anyone driving in the area at the time to check if they have dash-cam footage that can help with our investigation.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101.
