Man dies in hospital after being found with head injury on Sunderland street

A man who was taken to hospital after suffering a head injury has died in hospital.

Emergency services were called to Penwood Road, Pennywell, Sunderland, at around 9am on Saturday.

The area was cordoned off by police as the injured man was treated at the scene.

He was then transferred to Sunderland Royal Hospital where he was described as in a 'critical' condition.

On Monday morning, police confirmed that the man has died.

Officers said they believe there was no third party involvement and a report will now been prepared for the coroner.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly before 9am on Saturday (November 27) we received a report of concern for the welfare of a male in the Penwood Road area of Sunderland.

“Emergency services attended and found the male, who had sustained a head injury.

"He was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

“Sadly the man has since died.

"There is not believed to be any third party involvement and a report will be made for the coroner.”
