
A man has died after his car collided head-on with a truck in Cessnock Road, Maitland, on Saturday morning.
The accident happened at about 7.45am near Dagworth Road, east of Gillieston Heights.
The Maitland Mercury reported that the 35-year-old was from Gillieston Heights.
Police said the man's Toyota sedan was on the wrong side of the road when it hit the truck about 25 metres south of the Dagworth Road intersection.
Motorists stopped at the scene and rendered first aid to the man, who was found unconscious inside the car.
They rendered CPR to the man before police and paramedics arrived.
The man, who was the sole occupant of the car, was taken to John Hunter Hospital by paramedics but did not recover.
The driver of the truck was not injured and was taken to hospital for mandatory testing. It is understood he had just made a delivery to Woolworths at Maitland.
Cessnock Road was closed for investigations but has now reopened.
