Man dies in Glasgow fire as investigation launched into Dumbarton Road tragedy

A man has tragically died in a fire on Dumbarton Road in Glasgow.

Emergency services were scrambled to Scotstoun at around 4.25pm on Saturday after a blaze ripped through a ground floor flat.

Fire crews fought against the blaze, however, sadly a 61-year-old man could not be saved.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage and police have launched a joint investigation with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

A Police Scotland spokesperson confirmed this afternoon: "A 61-year-old man has died following a fire at a flat on Dumbarton Road near to Ardsloy Place, Scotstoun, Glasgow, on Saturday, 16 October.

"Police and emergency services were called to the fire around 4.25 on Saturday afternoon. The man, who was the householder and alone in the flat at the time, died at the scene.

"A joint investigation with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service is ongoing to establish the cause of the fire. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."
