Man dies in flat blaze as firefighters called to 12th floor

A man has died following a flat fire on a Kirkby street during the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they attended a fire at Quarry Green Heights, Quarry Green in Kirkby in the early hours of Tuesday 16th November.

A spokesman confirmed the incident resulted in the death of a man.

Fire crews were alerted at 1am and arrived on scene at Quarry Green Heights at 1.07am after a fire was reported in the high-rise building.

Five fire engines and an aerial appliance were sent to the scene.

The fire service spokesman added: "Crews arrived to find a fire in a flat on the 12th floor of the building.

"Firefighters gained entry to the flat, with four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus fighting the fire and searching the flat for occupants.

"The fire was extinguished by 1.37 am. During their search, firefighters discovered the body of a man at the property.

"The deceased’s next of kin have been informed by Merseyside Police. Firefighters remained to check for any fire spread, checked floors above and below and ventilated the area."

Fire Crews left the scene at 3.39am.

A joint investigation is taking place with Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service and Merseyside Police.
