Man dies in fire in Trongate block of flats in early hours of morning

A man has died following a fire in a city centre block of flats in the early hours of this morning.

Emergency services rushed to the scene on Parnie Street at around 1.30am this morning.

The fire broke out on the second floor of the three-storey building.

Police Scotland have confirmed that one man was removed from a flat and treated by paramedics but sadly died at the scene.

A spokesman said: "Police were called at around 1.40am to reports of a fire at a flat in Parnie Street, Glasgow.

"One man was removed from one of the flats and treated by the ambulance service but was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Enquiries are ongoing into the cause of the fire."

Fire services remained at the scene following the blaze.

A SFRS spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 1.35am on Friday, December 27 to reports of a dwelling fire on Parnie Street, Glasgow.

"Three fire appliances and one aerial appliance were mobilised to the scene where crews extinguished a fire on the second floor within a three storey building.

"One appliance remains in attendance."
