A murder inquiry is underway after a man was allegedly stabbed during a disturbance.

The victim, who was killed just a few hundred yards away from the Scottish Parliament, has not yet been named.

Police said they raced to the scene following reports from members of the public.

They found the man with serious injuries and he was taken to Edinburgh ’s Royal Infirmary but passed away a few hours later.

Detectives said a 52-year-old man has been arrested.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Police in Edinburgh are investigating following the death of a man on Monday 17th June.

"Officers were called to Viewcraig ‎Street at around 4pm following a report of a disturbance and the male was found with serious injuries.

"He was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh where he later passed away.

"A 52-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death, which is being treated as suspicious.

"Inquiries are ongoing and anyone with information that can assist police with their investigation is asked to come forward immediately.”
