Man dies in devastating bungalow fire

A man in his 60s died in a bungalow fire in Middleton last night, police have confirmed.

Firefighters were called to reports of a fire at a bungalow on Great Arbor Way, close to the town centre, at around 8.40pm on Monday, January 10.

Greater Manchester Police said in a statement: "Shortly before 9pm yesterday police were called to a report of a fire at a residential property on Great Arbor Way in Middleton.

"Emergency services attended and sadly a man in his 60s was pronounced dead at the scene.

"An investigation is underway to establish the cause of the fire.

"No other injuries were reported."

A Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: “At approximately 8:40pm on Monday 10 January, we received reports of a fire at a bungalow on Great Arbor Way, Middleton.

“Three fire engines from Blackley, Chadderton and Heywood fire stations quickly attended the scene and extinguished the fire, rescuing one man from the building.

“Crews remained on the scene until 9am this morning (Tuesday January 11) to support Greater Manchester Police and to provide public reassurance.

“The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.”
