Man dies in A38 lorry crash near Thornbury

A man has died after a lorry crash on the outskirts of Bristol.

Emergency crews were called at 3.45pm yesterday (October 4) to reports of a crash involving a lorry which had collided with a wall on the A38 at Alveston.

The crash happened on the busy road between its junctions with the B4061 at Thornbury and Grovesend Road.

The road was closed until 10pm last night while emergency crews dealt with the incident.

Police have now confirmed a man in his 30s – the driver of the lorry – died in the crash.

A police spokesman said: “The driver, a man in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

“His next of kin has been informed.”

The road has been closed again this morning (October 5) for recovery of the vehicle.

The spokesman added: “The road is closed again for recovery of the lorry.”

The accident, which closed the road in both directions, caused major disruption on the roads.

Recovery of the vehicle is taking place today and the road is due to re-open later.

No one else was injured in the crash.
