Victoria Police says a man working at a farm in Melbourne's outer west has been killed in an explosion.
The explosion occurred at the property on Troups Road, Fieldstone, shortly after 12:30pm, police said.
Sukhi Sandhu lives nearby and said the explosion shook the windows in his house.
He raced to the neighbour's home to see if he could help but efforts to resuscitate the man were unsuccessful.
He died at the scene.
Mr Sandhu said he was told the man was working on a fuel tank at the time of the incident.
Police will prepare a report for the coroner and WorkSafe is investigating.
