Man dies following early morning crash on busy motorway

A MAN has died following an early morning crash on the M8 in North Lanarkshire.

Emergency services were called to the M8, near junction 5, near Cumbernauld at around 6.20am on Monday.

Traffic Scotland warned at the time that one lane of the motorway had been closed while the emergency services attended the incident.

Police confirmed that a man was pronounced dead within a vehicle.

Detectives said his family have been made aware and that there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

Officers added that a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 6.20am on Monday, May 25, 2026, we were called to the M8 near junction 5, near Cumbernauld.

“A man was pronounced dead within a vehicle. His family is aware. There are no suspicious circumstances and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
