Man dies at South Gloucestershire Council meeting

A man died at a South Gloucestershire Council meeting today (October 31).

The man was attending a planning meeting at the Kingswood Civic Centre when he was taken ill shortly before noon.

The ambulance service was called and several paramedics fought for nearly an hour to save his life.

Sadly, he died at the scene.

A spokesman for the council said: “A member of the public was taken ill at a meeting at Kingswood Civic Centre this morning.

“Staff and councillors rendered first aid and called the emergency services, but very sadly, he passed away.

“Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones at this very difficult time.”

A spokesman for the ambulance service said: “South Western Ambulance Service were called on Thursday at just before midday about an incident at Kingswood Civic Centre.

"We sent various resources to the scene including land ambulance crews, specialist paramedics and an air ambulance crew.”

Police were called to carry out enquiries on behalf of the coroner.

The planning meeting was adjourned and will take place at a later date yet to be confirmed.
