A man has died after his motorhome careered down a hill and off a raised loading ramp before flying through the air and crashing onto the back of a ferry.
Quebec police have identified the victim of the incident at the Tadoussac ferry crossing, Canada, on Monday as Éric Belec, CBC news reports.
The 40-year-old from Laval, Quebec, was pulled from the wreckage and rushed to hospital where he died.
A female passenger, also 40, was also taken to hospital and is fighting for life.
Dramatic video footage of the crash shows the moment the camper van hurtles over the ramp and through the air over the sea before smashing into the departing ferry.
In the CCTV, ferry passengers can be seen on the ship, but no-one on board was injured, reports say.
The horrific destruction can be seen in the video, with the front of the van completely destroyed.
Éric has been hailed a hero as eyewitnesses said he did everything he could to warn people to get out of the way and avoid other cars and pedestrians, beeping his horn.
Some are questioning the safety of the pier which is positioned at the bottom of a hill.
It is believed the driver lost control because of a technical fault with the RV.
Cindy Desbiens, who was on the upper deck of the ferry with her two children, told the Daily Mail : "It seemed to be that the breaks had gone out on the motorhome and the man honked to warn people down the coast."
Claire Gagné , who witnessed the crash, told CBC: "There was a lot of panic - a lot of people almost got hit."
"All I can say is that there were many close calls," she added.
