Man dies and woman left in critical condition after Fife house fire

A man has died and a woman has been rushed to hospital following a blaze at a house in Fife.

The fire occurred just before 6am on Saturday morning at a property in Thorn Tree Place in Oakley, near Dunfermline and fire crews rushed to the scene.

The woman has now been taken to Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy and remains in a critical condition.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were alerted at 5.52am on Saturday 24 August to reports of a fire within a two-storey dwelling in Oakley in Fife.

"Operations control mobilised a number of resources to Thorn Tree Place and firefighters remain in attendance."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Police in Fife responded to reports of a fire in Thorn Tree Place, Oakley, at around 6am on Saturday 24 August.

"As a result of this incident, one man sadly died and a woman has been taken to Victoria Hospital in a critical condition.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding this fire."
