A man has died and another is fighting for life in hospital following a head-on collision.
Emergency services were called to the crash on the A689 at Harperley Bank, between Harperley and Wolsingham in the Weardale area of County Durham on Monday afternoon.
The 48-year-old driver of a Peugeot Bipper van was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after 5.25pm.
A 42-year-old man, who was driving a Volkswagen Passat, was taken to the Freeman Hospital, in Newcastle, with what are described life-threatening injuries.
Police are now looking for any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward and help them with their investigation.
A spokesperson for Durham Constabulary said: "Anyone who witnessed the incident or has Dash Cam footage is asked to contact Durham Constabulary on 101, quoting incident reference 349 of July 15."
