Man dies and another cut from car wreckage after horror crash in Aberdeenshire

A man has died and another is injured following a horror crash in Aberdeenshire.

Emergency services raced to the A90 Aberdeen to Dundee road, near the Auquhirie junction in Newlands at Stonehaven, just before 5pm on Friday.

One elderly man died at the scene of the two-car collision.

A second man had to be cut from the wreckage.

The A90 remains closed in both directions as enquiries continue into the crash.

Motorists are being diverted along the A92.

A spokeswoman from Scottish Fire and Rescue Service told the Record: “We were called to Newlands at Stonehaven at 4.47pm on Friday.

"Two appliances from Stonehaven attended.

“One elderly male died at the scene.

“One male casualty was extricated from his vehicle.

“The crews then made the scene safe.”

A Police Scotland spokesman told the Record: "Police are in attendance following a two car crash on the A90 near the Auquhirie Junction, reported at 5.00pm.

"The A90 has been closed northbound and southbound at Stonehaven and drivers are being diverted via the A92.

"A man has been pronounced dead at the scene.

"Another man has been taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with serious injuries which are not thought to be life threatening."
