An Indiana man died after he was shot several times, then walked into a restaurant in the East Side neighborhood where workers called paramedics Tuesday night.

The man, 26, entered the restaurant in the 10600 block of South Indianapolis Avenue and sat down about 7:45 p.m., Chicago police said.

Employees noticed he was hurt and called 911, police said.

Paramedics discovered he had been shot several times in the lower back, police said. He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

He was identified as Asael Rivera of East Side, Indiana, by the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

No one was in custody.
