Man dies after two-vehicle collision in County Durham

A man has died following a serious collision in County Durham.

Emergency services were called to the scene at the junction of Butterwick Road, on the A689 between Sedgefield and Wynyard, at around 5pm on Monday.

Two vehicles, a van and a car, had been involved in the collision.

The driver of a white Ford Transit van, a man in his 60s, suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.

The driver of a yellow BMW M4, a man in his 20s, suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Police say the family of the van driver have been informed.

Officers are now appealing for any witnesses to come forward and help them with their investigation.

A spokesperson for Durham Constabulary said: "Enquiries are ongoing, however, if you have any information or dash cam footage of the incident, call 101 quoting incident reference number 270 of November 30."
