A man died after suffering from heat stroke and crashing into a car in Logan Square during last weekend’s heat wave.
About 4:55 p.m. July 19, officers responded to a crash in the 3600 block of West Palmer Street and found Adam Wrona, 56, in the driver’s seat of a Lexus, Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. He appeared to have a “medical emergency.”
The Lexus had struck a parked red Toyota truck, and Wrona was taken to Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center in an unknown condition, authorities said. He was pronounced dead at 6:23 a.m. July 21. He lived in Schiller Park.
An autopsy Thursday determined he died from complications of heat stroke with heart disease as a contributing factor, the medical examiner’s office said. His death was ruled an accident.
The National Weather Service issued an “excessive heat” warning from July 18 through July 20.
Three other heat-related deaths have been reported so far this season.
