Man dies after being hit with firearm in suburban car pursuit, police say

A crime scene was set up at Springfield Lakes after the man's death.

Two 19-year-old men have been charged with murder over the death of a 49-year-old man overnight in Springfield Lakes, south-west of Brisbane.

Police say at about 8:30pm last night one of the men first forced entry to a house and punched a 20-year-old woman in the face before stealing her phone.

The pair then left that property in a white ute and around 10:00pm were pursued through the suburb by a silver sedan.

When both vehicles came to a halt on The Promenade just after 10:00pm, it is alleged the men stepped out of the ute and threatened the passenger of the sedan with a firearm.

The 49-year-old was struck in the head with the firearm and fell to the ground, losing consciousness, police said.

The driver of the silver sedan, a 20-year-old man, attempted to assist the injured passenger and was also allegedly assaulted.

The two suspects then fled the scene in the white ute, police said.

Emergency services tried to revive the older man but he died at the scene.

Specialist police took the suspects into custody at a residence in Atlantic Street just before midnight.

All four men and the woman are known to each other.

The suspects, one man from Springfield Lakes and one from Molendinar, have been charged with one count each of murder, common assault, entering a dwelling and robbery with violence.

Both men will appear in the Ipswich Magistrates Court tomorrow, October 21.
