Man dies after Scots flat fire as cops probe blaze

A man has died following an early morning flat fire.

Emergency services were scrambled to the property on Bute Drive in Perth after the alarm was raised at around 4.35am on Friday, March 18.

Ambulance crews attended and a 55-year-old man was rushed to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.

Police have confirmed he has now tragically passed away.

Earlier today, officers said they had launched an probe into the fire.

They have now confirmed there are no suspicious circumstances.

A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “A 55-year-old man’s died following a fire on Bute Drive, Perth around 4am on Friday, March 18.

“There are no suspicious circumstances and a report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.

Area Commander Stephen Wood is the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service’s Local Senior Officer for Perth, Kinross, Angus and Dundee.

He said: “We were alerted at 4.03am on Friday, March 18 to reports of a fire at property on Bute Drive, Perth.

“Operations Control mobilised three fire appliances to the scene and firefighters extinguished a fire affecting a first floor flat.

“One man was transferred into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service.

“Sadly, after being taken to hospital, he later passed away.

“Our thoughts are very much with his family, friends and the wider community at this difficult time.
