Man dies after 'medical episode' in park - police are treating his death as suspicious but want to 'dispel rumours'

A man has died after suffering a medical episode in a park in Stockport.

Police are treating the man's death as suspicious.

The man in his 50s suffered a medical episode in Brabyns Park, Marple Bridge, on Tuesday afternoon (March 23).

He was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

Police confirmed his death this morning (Friday).

A statement posted on the GMP Marple and Hazel Grove Facebook page said: "To dispel rumours that appear to have been circulating in Marple, we can confirm there was an incident at Brabyns Park during the afternoon of Tuesday 23rd March.

"A man tragically died in public after a medical episode.

"The death is being treated as suspicious and a 'Crime Scene' was in place on Wednesday but it is now stood down.

"There is no risk to the wider public."

An air ambulance was photographed at the park following the incident, which happened at around 3.35pm on Tuesday.

A 31-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of section 47 assault on the same afternoon.
