Man dies after lorry crashes through M74 central barrier into other car

A man has tragically died after a crash between a lorry and a car on the M74 this morning.

The collision occurred on the motorway near junction 10 and 11 by Lanark at around 7.50am today (Saturday, January 29).

The lorry was travelling northbound when it crashed through the central reservation barrier and onto the other side of the carriageway where it collided with a car travelling southbound.

The 32-year-old lorry driver was pronounced dead at the scene after emergency services rushed to the incident. His family has been informed.

The male driver of the other vehicle, a black Land Rover Discovery, was uninjured but has been left badly shaken by the incident.

Police Scotland has confirmed an investigation is under way to establish the full circumstances of the crash. The road remains closed to allow crash scene investigators to examine the scene and conduct enquiries.

Officers are appealing to any motorists who were on the M74 with any dash cam devices to check their footage. It's possible it may have captured images which could assist officers in their enquiries.
