A 69-year-old man has died after a fire broke out at a flat near the town's harbour.
The blaze broke out around 11pm last night at a flat on South Harbour Street, Ayr.
Police were called to the scene and have said enquiries are ongoing to establish the cause of the fire.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "A 69-year-old man has died following a fire at a flat in South Harbour Street, Ayr.
"Police were made aware of the incident around 11:05pm on Thursday 15 October 2020. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances of the fire."
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service have been approached for a comment.
