Man dies after late night crash on busy city road

A man has died after being hit by a truck in Newport.

The incident happened at around 11.50pm on Saturday, April 20.

The man, described by police as a pedestrian, was taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital but later died as a result of his injuries.

According to Gwent Police , specialist officers are currently with the man's family.

The incident happened on Chepstow Road between Kenilworth Road and Somerton Road and involved a white Isuzu truck.

The road was closed for several hours following the incident and people reported hearing sirens and a heavy police presence.

Gwent Police has appealed for anyone with information to contact them.

A spokeswoman for the force said: "The male pedestrian was taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital as a result of injuries sustained in the collision, but has since died. Specialist officers are supporting his family at this difficult time.

"We are appealing for information from anyone that could help with our investigation. Anyone with information, or dash cam footage, is asked to call Gwent Police on 101, quoting log 686 of 20/04/19.

No arrests have been made at this time.
