Man dies after ingesting substance during Joliet drug bust

A Joliet man died after swallowing an unknown substance during a drug bust Tuesday.

Eric Lurry, 37, ingested “a large amount of an unknown substance” after he was taken into custody near Briggs and Washington streets during a narcotics investigation, Joliet police said.

Lurry became unresponsive and was rushed to St. Joseph Hospital, police said. He died early Wednesday.

Joliet police are continuing to investigate.
