Man dies after huge 999 response in city centre

A man has died after a medical emergency on College Green prompted a huge emergency response today (Thursday, December 16).

Officers on patrol in the area were flagged down by a member of the public to assist the male thought to have lived in flats above the Catch 22 restaurant, and paramedics, including an air ambulance, were called.

Sadly the man died at the scene. Police say that his next of kin have been informed.

The force said that his death is not believed to be suspicious and they are carrying out enquiries on behalf of the coroner.

In a statement, Avon and Somerset Police said: “A member of the public flagged down officers on patrol to help a male following a medical emergency at an address near the College Green area of Bristol.

“Paramedics were called but sadly the male was pronounced dead at the scene.

“His death is not believed to be suspicious at this time and his next of kin have been informed. Enquiries are being carried out on behalf of the coroner.”

* This article previously stated the man was thought to have been in Catch 22, however it is has since been amended to state he was in flats above the restaurant, which are entered via a separate door to Catch 22
