Man dies after horror two-lorry crash on A9 as other HGV driver injured

A 64-year-old man has tragically died after a horrific road crash involving two lorries on the A9.

Emergency services raced to the section of road near Carrbridge in the Highlands after receiving a call at 4.15am today. Medics attended but one of the drivers, Alan Jones from Inverness, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

The other driver of the HGV, a 56-year-old man, was blue-lighted to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness. He was later released following treatment.

The section of road remains closed while officers carry out ongoing investigations into the fatal collision. Police Scotland is appealing to any witnesses of the crash to come forward.

Particularly, they want to hear from those with dash-cam footage.

Sergeant Alasdair Mackay, Road Policing Unit, said: "My thoughts are with Alan’s family and friends at this difficult time. I would appeal to anyone who saw what happened or anyone in the area around the time who saw the HGVs prior to the crash to please contact us.

"Likewise, anyone with dash cam footage of the A9 around the time of the incident, please review it and get in touch with us if you think you’ve captured anything relevant."

Anyone with information can contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting reference 0379 of Friday, 30 September, 2022.
