Man dies after horror crash in Trafford - another man has been detained and taken to hospital

A man has died following a horror smash between two cars in Trafford.

Police were called to reports of a crash on Seymour Grove in Stretford, at around 2.55am on Saturday morning.

A Seat Altea and a Vauxhall Astra had collided near the junction with Kings Road, causing one car to set on fire.

A 56-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

His family have been informed.

A 35-year-old man was detained at the scene and taken to hospital with minor injuries, where he remains.

On Saturday morning, a police cordon remained in place at the junction of Kings Road.

Crash scene investigators were seen carrying out enquiries.

Pictures from the scene show a badly damaged Vauxhall Astra, with parts of car debris across the road.

Sergeant Andrew Page, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "This was a devastating incident which tragically resulted in the death of a man - our thoughts are with his family and friends.  

"An investigation is underway and officers are working hard to establish the full circumstances surrounding the collision.

"If anyone has any information or dash cam footage filmed in the area at the time of the collision or shortly before, I would ask them to contact us as soon as possible as it may assist us with our enquiries."
