Man dies after falling off cliff in Pembrokeshire

A man has died after falling off a cliff in west Wales, police have confirmed.

The elderly man fell down a cliff face near the village of Solva in Pembrokeshire on Monday afternoon.

A large-scale rescue operation was launched at around 3.15pm, involving a coastguard rescue helicopter, coastguard teams, an all-weather lifeboat, paramedics and officers from Dyfed-Powys Police.

The man, who has not yet been named, died at the scene from his injuries.

A spokeswoman for Dyfed-Powys Police said: “Officers attended between Solva and Nine Wells shortly after 4.30pm yesterday (June 3, 2019), following reports an elderly man had fallen down a cliff.

“Sadly, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been made aware.”

HM Coroner has been notified of the death but an inquest has not yet been opened.

Police added that the man’s death was not being treated as suspicious.
