Man dies after falling from the Wearmouth Bridge in Sunderland

A man has died after falling from a bridge in Sunderland.

Emergency services were called to the Wearmouth Bridge at just before 1pm on Tuesday after receiving reports that someone had fallen.

A man was pronounced dead at the scene and police do not believe there was any third party involvement.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: "Shortly after 12.50pm today (Tuesday), police received a report that a man had fallen from the Wearmouth Bridge, Sunderland. Emergency services attended however, sadly the man was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

"Enquiries are ongoing to formally identify the man and contact his next of kin. There is not believed to be any third party involvement and a report is being prepared for the coroner."
