The road remained closed - from the Woolpack pub junction at Haslingden - for over five hours.

Police then handed the road over to the council who carried out 'remedial work' before re-opening it. Officers are now appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.

Sgt Pete Fyans, from Lancashire Police’s Roads Policing Unit, said: “My thoughts are very much with the man’s family at this sad and difficult time.

“We are investigating the circumstances around the collision and would encourage anyone with information to come forward. If you can help, or have any dashcam footage, please get in touch.”

Anyone with information or footage is asked to call the force on 101 or email 3717@lancashire.police.uk quoting log 1305 of May 13.
