Man dies after falling from city centre high rise building

A man has died after reportedly falling from near the top of a high rise building in Liverpool city centre.

The body of the man was found by police officers in the stalled Aura development between Prescot Street and Low Hill, opposite the Royal Liverpool Hospital.

The ECHO understands a patient in the hospital was looking through a window and saw the man fall, prompting them to raise the alarm.

Merseyside Police attended the scene and gained entry to the building site, before a body was found.

A spokeswoman for the Force said: "We can confirm the body of a man has been found after a report of concern for the safety of a man in Liverpool today (Friday 22 May).

"We were called at 3.30pm to a report a man had fallen from a building on the site at the junction of Low Hill and Prescot Street.

"Emergency services attended and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

"At this time officers are treating the death as unexplained, but it is not believed to be suspicious.

"The man has yet to be formally identified, and efforts are underway to inform his next of kin."

A cordon was put in place around the entrances to the site and ambulance crews could be seen outside.

Aura was one of a number of schemes that stalled after major city developer Eliot Lawless was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud, bribery and corruption in December.

The police investigation remains ongoing.
